G? ‒ flagships

art in public space
8 flags of G8 states printed in negative colors | each 160x240 cm
flagpoles | each 800 cm high
façade cover | printed | 750x2000 cm
wall segments | concrete | 12 pieces | each 160x120 cm

This work is a subtly humorous take on the power structures of the “G8 nations” and their influence on global politics, while also alluding to the ambivalence of identity and national symbolism. It questions the graphic power of the flag, a symbol of identity and marker of belonging, to convey an increasingly fragile or even debilitated authenticity in a globalized world.
